Dustin Hoffman was born to jazz pianist Lillian nee Gold, and Harry Hoffman, set decorator at Columbia Pictures. Dustin Hoffman graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1955. He has a brother named Ronald who is a lawyer and an economist.
Dustin Hoffman did a series of odd jobs at New York City including coat checking at restaurants, handled typing job for city Yellow Pages directory, and worked as a professional fragrance tester for Maxwell House. In between he has been finding an occasional work on television shows. After he got a role in a Broadway production in 1960, Dustin Hoffman decided to hone up his acting skills further and so joined Actors Studio to become a dedicated methodical actor.
Beginning in 1961 with small roles in television shows such as "Naked City", "The Defenders", "Hallmark Hall of Fame", Dustin Hoffman steadily worked his way to fame and stardom in Hollywood. In between his acting schedules, Dustin Hoffman, to make both ends meet, found time to teach at a community college night school and also took up directing off-Broadway and community theater productions. He made his movie debut with "The Tiger Makes Out" in 1967 alongside another legendary actor Eli Wallach. Since then, Dustin Hoffman never looked back. He became one of the biggest actors in Hollywood.
Dustin Hoffman gave award-winning performances in movies like "Kramer vs. Kramer" {1979}, and "Rain Man" {1988} for which he won Oscar awards and won BAFTA awards for "John and Mary" {1969}, "Midnight Cowboy" {1969}. Besides winning two Oscars, Dustin Hoffman was also nominated five more times for Academy Awards for his critically acclaimed performances in "The Graduate" {1967}, "Midnight Cowboy" {1969}, "Lenny" {1974}, "Tootsie" {1982}, "Wag the Dog" {1997}. He also won several other nominations for awards for movies like "All the President's Men" {1976}, "Marathon Man" {1976}, "Hook" {1991} and so on .
Strangely Dustin Hoffman who is a two-time winner and five-time nominee of Oscars is reported to have said on a talk show that Oscars were "obscene, dirty and no better than a beauty contest."
Dustin Hoffman is married to Anne Byrne for eleven years from 1969 to 1980. The couple together has two kids Karina and Jenna. He later married attorney Lisa Gottsegen in October 1980. They together have four kids, Jacob, Maxwell, Rebecca and Alexandra.
